The smell of new leather.

It could quite possibly be one of the BEST smells in the entire world. A new car with leather seats. Mmmmmm. I think there should be a Scentsy scent dedicated to this particular aroma because it is just so.dang.good. (hmmm...maybe that is how I make my first million?!)

Justin is a lucky man because he gets to enjoy this smell everyday, now! As of Monday, he is the proud owner of a SWEET truck....his first brand new car to own. And I am so happy for him!!

It was a fun process helping him pick out, negotiate and purchase this beautiful vehicle. After a 'couple' of hours at the dealership, we said goodbye to the Tahoe that had been a faithful companion for a few years and hello to this bad boy:

I'd say Santa was pretty good to him this year! :)

A Lesson In Panhandling

My job requires me to visit some exceptionally sketchy parts of Downtown Dallas and I am always thankful to be alive when I leave. I'm really not kidding. I think a raise is in order because I do risk my life for the job ;). Last year, Justin gave me a mini bottle of mace (in a pink camouflage case, I might add) to carry on my key chain and though I initially laughed...that pepper in a can goes with me everywhere and you better believe my finger is on the trigger. (So, if you run into me in D-town, you probably want to approach me very slowly, with caution).

So far, I have not had to utilize my pink mace...and I really hope that I will not ever be in a situation where I will have to. However, at the rate at which I am getting panhandled on the job, it might be just around the corner. Case in point:

This past week, I was in one of the aforementioned sketchy areas of Dallas and as I approached my car leaving the hospital I saw a man crossing the street headed my way. He had the panhandling 'look' in his eye so I quickly jumped into my car and locked the doors. Apparently, I was not fast enough because before I could pull away he was knocking on my drivers side window. EEEEEK. I did not roll it down, so he began yelling to me through the glass. He proceeded to tell me how he was NOT a bum, was just released from the hospital and pulled out his discharge papers and medicine bottles to show me. He was talking 100mph and told me that he was living in an apartment down the street, just spent all of his money on his medication and needed $4.00 to pay his rent or else he was going to be evicted and had nowhere to go. He said it was urgent. I thought this was all very deja-vu as I had been panhandled about three weeks prior with the SAME exact story. He kept on and on and on about how he was totally not a bum and just needed $4.00 when it HIT me that this was the SAME dude that gave me the SAME spill three weeks prior. Hmm.

I am usually very sensitive to those in need and like to help out where I can - especially around the Holidays. We're talkin...I can't pass the Salvation Army bell-ringer on the way out of the store without giving money even if I gave it on the way in. But this guy....unfortunately, overused his rehearsed story and I just could not find it in me to give him the $4.

*Panhandling tip #1: If you're going to ask for money and use an emotional, time-sensitive story...switch it up from time to time. You never know when you are going to ask the same girl for money twice.

My stories similar to this could go on but I wanted to highlight this particular, similar situation before I depart from blogging for a couple of days. I really feel this is necessary to share for both the innocent bystander to hear as well as those panhandlers reading my blog who could use a tip or two.

I was working in another slim shady area and had pulled over to a Walgreens to pick up a prescription. As I was getting out of my car, a woman approached me with a piece of paper with a handwritten note on it. I almost cried as I read her scribbled writing stating that she was from India, could not speak English and her baby had cancer. In broken English, the note was asking if I could help her with some money for diapers or formula for her baby as all of her money had gone towards cancer treatments. She paired this note with the most pitiful eyes and little moan you had ever heard in your life. So, what am I going to do, tell her no?? Since I did not have any cash, I motioned for her to follow me inside of Walgreens and we headed to the baby aisle.

Needing to pick up my medicine, I told her to pick out some diapers and I would be back in a minute. This is where the story simply blows my mind. I was gone for a mere five minutes and when I returned to the baby aisle, this woman had found herself a cart and had it filled to the BRIM with diapers, formula, bottles, wipes and toys. I kid you not...my jaw just dropped and I could not believe she was still pulling things off the shelves. The items she had chosen were completely random and had no consistency with her story....i.e. diapers for newborn premies and diapers for toddlers. What was the woman trying to do? Obviously wipe out my paycheck for the week. Diapers are $$!

Slightly frustrated at her extreme perception of my generosity, I told her that I could not purchase all of the items in her cart but would buy her one package of diapers. THIS, my friends, did not go over well. She looked at me with utter disdain and shock and began huffing and puffing as she pulled her note out to show me again. I again told her, no, and that I would only purchase one package. She was ticked and began putting things back on the shelves.

Luckily, as a Walgreens associate discretely told me that it was a scam and several women had been pulling this stunt all week. As much as I still hated to say no, I told her I could not help her today and she was one unhappy lady.

A few weeks later, I had another woman pull the exact same baby/cancer scam on me in a different location. Unbelievable! Trying to appeal to my emotions using an extremely sad situation such as a baby having cancer is just totally wrong. I hate that this has happened but these people are really making me extremely skeptical about giving money to anyone on the street, ever!

Panhandling tip #2: If someone offers to buy you diapers or baby items in a store, you better just take what you can get and not put everything necessary for your "child's" entire growth development from 0-10yrs in the basket....let's don't get too greedy, here.

So, the moral of the story: keep on generously giving to the red buckets by entrances, food banks, your Church, donation centers, angel trees and other established organizations/individuals that have true needs. Steer clear of unoriginal, rehearsed, repeat stories and compulsive pharmacy shoppers that are just trying to earn an easy chunk of change or basket full of baby supplies. :)

Merry Christmas to everyone! I hope you have a blessed time with family and friends and truly celebrate Jesus and his goodness to us. Because of that small baby in a manger, we have a Savior and that is a thing to celebrate this weekend...and everyday. Much love!

Isaiah 9:6-7
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.
He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

Happy Birthday, Mom!!

Today is my wonderful mom's birthday and I am so excited to celebrate her!

You are so beautiful, mom!

I love this picture of her and Justin from our wedding - so classic.

Mom, I hope you have such a great birthday today and truly feel the love that you deserve. You are the best mom and friend anyone could ask for and everyone who knows you is blessed! Your selflessness, love for God, caring heart and ridiculous creativity are just a few of the many, many things I love and admire about you. I hope you have a great day today and I love you!! :)

Celebrate good times!

This weekend was such a fun time of celebrating! Last Thursday, my sweet friend since 4th grade, Lindsay, got engaged to her longtime boyfriend Bryan of 3.5 years! They have been dating long distance for the better part of their relationship so the engagement was super surprising to her as he came in town and popped the question as she was sitting on Santa's lap! We are just thrilled for them and can't wait for the big day!! Congrats to the future Weisgerbers!!! :)

We continued celebrating on Saturday because it was my dad's birthday...yahoo for December Christmas babies! Ok...I love my dad so much. He's a pretty love-able guy! If you have never met him, you must know that he is one of the most generous, thoughtful, and HANDIEST men around. Really, the man can build, fix, rig and engineer anything. I would not put anything past him - even sewing (oops, sorry to rat out your skills, dad!) :) We had a great time over dinner and almost attending ICE at the Gaylord (3,999 other people that had the same idea as us so we didn't quite feel like fighting the crowds). Anyhow, we had fun celebrating him and hanging out. Happy Birthday, dad!!
The celebrating could have continued if the Cowboys would have pulled off a win vs. the Eagles, but nonetheless we had such a fun time at the game on Sunday! It was my first time in Jerry World and I was surely impressed! It's definitely not your average football game....such a performance! Our sweet friend, Lori, allowed us to use her season tickets for the night and we are so thankful to her. Thanks, Lori!!!
The stadium looks so beautiful with all the Christmas decor!
Everything is soooooo much prettier at Christmas!! :)
Last night it was a celebration for my mom's birthday!! Will post pics from that and a true happy birthday to her on the real day (the 20th). Both mine and Justin's parents all have their birthday in December so it's a celebratory month, for sure! :)

One man's trash...another man's treasure

If you've never bought a real Christmas tree before, part of the process is getting a fresh cut on the end, so it will be able to absorb water when you set it in the base. They can either cut it for you when you pick out your tree or you can DIY. Since Mainstay Farm is about 45 minutes from our apartment and the cut is only good for about 30 minutes before you need to place the tree in water, we decided to DIY and headed to my parents house for the saw!

When my dad finished cutting the end of the tree (on top of Justin's truck...scary!), the sentimental side of me kicked in full-swing and I decided I wanted to save the part he cut off. My dad and Justin laughed at me a little because the piece was all sappy and just didn't look pretty. BUT I was determined to keep a part of our first tree make something out of it. So, I had my dad cut it down smaller and let it dry out for a few days. I'm glad these guys put up with me, because I think we got a pretty cute little ornament out of it that we'll be able to keep forever! ;)
The tool man, himself, hard at work.
The fresh cut!
I guess the blog 'thing' to do now is to post the instructions on how I made this, so here you go:
1. Buy a tree. Cut bottom of tree.
2. Sand sides of stump so it's smooth.
3. Grab a sharpie and go to town! I wanted it fairly simple.
3. Decorate sides how you wish. I just added a pic printed on computer
paper, antiqued the edges, and added the gold numbers. Fancy! Ha. Not much to it :)
A few more Christmas details :)

Chicken: It's what's for dinner

Tonight, I am making one of Justin's favorite meals for dinner: Italian Chicken. I just had to share the recipe because it could quite possibly be one of the easiest meals to make...ever, and it is so delicious. It is great if you need to whip up something in a hurry and also has a nice presentation :)

Italian Chicken

Boneless, skinless chicken breasts
4 tomatoes, quartered (I like to use Roma tomatoes)
1 pkg fresh mushrooms
1 bottle of italian dressing (I like to use zesty)
1 pkg Lipton dry onion soup mix
1/2 tsp oregano
2 bay leaves

Place chicken, tomatoes & mushrooms in 9x13 pan. Combine dressing, soup mix and oregano. Pour sauce over chicken and lay bay leaves on top. Bake 1 hour at 350 or until chicken is fully cooked.

Pretty much a fail-proof recipe....my kinda cookin'!! :)

Gifted

My recent shopping trips over the past week have led me to the conclusion that people get a little CRAZY during the holidays. Really. Parking lots....watch out and don't even think about parking close. Lines at the mall....everyone thinks you're cutting. Need a certain size?...Grab it quick before someone snatches it straight from your hand. Some people just go absolutely nuts, lose hold of who they really are as opposed to the absolutely scrooge-ish person that they are in the stores! I think 90% of the time it is uncalled for and totally avoidable! Really, I know it is a busier season than most, but what's the constant rush and sense of complete urgency about?

People are stressin' about gifts. What to get, how much, where to buy, and on and on and on. It makes them a little crazy.

I have to admit, sometimes, it is tough to buy gifts for people at Christmas because for the most part if someone wants something...they buy it for themselves. As opposed to when you were younger, not able to make any money for yourself and therefore had to put your wishes on a list. Waiting a whole dang year for them was tough, man! (My hardest wait was for an overhead projector one year. Yep...I said overhead projector. And I wanted one, BAD!)

Since gift-giving is one of my top "love languages," I really like to get people things that hold some sort of weight and are really going to mean something to them when they receive it. I guess you could say I like buying 'novelty' type gifts....things they are going to hold on to. I hate to just buy a shirt, check it off the list and move on to the next person just to get it out of the way. I think most can relate to this.

It is not always an easy task giving so much thought to gifts, especially for so many people all at the same time. And not all gifts are going to have a sentimental or absolute uniqueness about them. Some gifts are just simply things that the other person needs. For example socks, underwear or mascara in your stocking (stocking stuffers are my FAVORITE part of Christmas...no lie!). Sometimes these things and completely random gifts that the other person would have never expected are the things people love most!

I think one of the BEST gifts you can give someone is something that person would not typically buy themselves. For women specifically, I think facials/massages/mani-pedi, etc. are things that we will treat ourselves to every now and then....but we'd LOVE to treat ourselves more often. And on someone else's dollar would be even better! ;) Seriously, though, I personally have somewhat of a hard time treating myself to these things that I know are SO relaxing and so good for me. And I bet most moms/sisters/teachers, etc. would feel the same.

I say all of this because my friend, Karen, at Eden Spa, gives the most absolutely-to-die for facials and treatments here in Colleyville. She prepped, pampered and beautified me for my wedding and I just could not say enough great things about her - both as a person and her services. I have told several friends about her over the past few months and they have all come back just raving about how wonderful she is

Right now Karen has a few specials that I thought I would share with you if you are in need of either treating yourself or need a little somethin' somethin' for your loved one's stocking. I recently got a giftcard to her spa and just cannot wait to use it! Here are just a few of her specials this month:
"RED Indulgance Facial" - $75

----
If you visit Karen, tell her I sent you. I promise you will LOVE her!

Have a great weekend!!!

Oh...and if you're wondering...I DID get that overhead projector for Christmas that one year ;)

Movie kick

We are on a huge movie kick right now and I have to say that I'm SUPER proud of myself for not falling asleep in the last 3 or 4 that we've watched. It might not seem like a big deal but trust me, this is a huge accomplishment. I associate sitting/laying down/relaxing with sleep, so usually movie time = sleep time. :) Anyhow, that's a side note to what I wanted to say tonight. The past few movies we have picked have really left us disappointed. I won't bore you with what we've watched but we were really in the mood for something truly good tonight.

According to a "Best Movies of All Time" list we Googled earlier this evening in hopes of some help, The Shawshank Redemption was listed as #1. Since neither of us had seen it but had heard a lot about it, we decided it was our movie pick of the night (not too certain of the accuracy of this list, but we seemed to have no hesitations trusting it!)

I am sure we are some of the few people out there that have not seen this movie but if there are some Shawhank Redemption virgins like us out there, I would highly recommend seeing this movie! It was extremely thought-provoking, had some great comic relief (albeit a little rough at times!), and who doesn't love Morgan Freeman??

Anyhow, I'm sure most have seen it and we're way behind but if you haven't....go buy it at Blockbuster because it's only $5.99 (and they are doing some weird rental thing now where movies are almost cheaper to buy vs. rent. Which, brings up another point that we're probably behind times in not doing Netflix!:))

Goodnight!

O Tannenbaum.

Because it is our first Christmas as a married couple, when we talked about our Christmas tree for this year, we decided we had to buy a real one. It just seemed most appropriate and festive. And, we didn't want a Walmart, pick-it-out-in-five-minutes tree. We wanted to do this thing the right way: an all-out Griswold, Christmas Vacation, chop down our own tree adventure we were envisioning. So, to the Christmas tree farm we went!

One of my dad's very best friends and some good family friends of ours own Mainstay Farm in Burleson, TX. It....is the coolest!! If you have not been, you NEED to go! They are a wonderful family and it is a neat experience. We are going to make it a family tradition to go every year, for sure!

Our parents and Hailey were there with us on Saturday and we had such a great time picking out our tree. We rode around on a tractor, scouring the land for the finest and grandest tree for our lil' apartment. Our 3rd floor ceilings are very tall, so we have the room for the height but seeing as how we had very minimal ornaments (as in....a grand total of 4!), we decided that going for a smaller tree would be more economical for our wallets. Paying rent and buying groceries this month are probably more important than me buying sparkly ornaments to adorn a 15 foot tree ;) So, we decided a sweet little 7 footer suited us better. Also, many of the 'traditional' Christmas pine trees do not have great branches for hanging ornaments, which led us to our Fraser Fir aka "Fairytale" tree, below, that is just perfect for decorating (which, we all know is super important, right!!!)
After picking out our tree and a quick stop for ornaments at Walmart (budget decorating this year!!), we came back home, lit a fire, set up our tree and began transforming the apartment into a winter wonderland. Ok, so...what this really looked like was me decorating and Justin beginning his second batch of homebrew! But, we had a great time and I am finished decorating. I think! (I'm sure there are a few things I will be adding here and there!!)

Here's a little preview of our place all jazzed for the Holidays. It's only 24 days away, so if you don't have yours up yet....do it! Before you know it, it'll be time to take them down (I get sad!!!).

Those sparkly pinecones are cinnamon scented....YUM! $4.00 @ Walmart :)

Love it, Mom!!!!! Mean it, girl ;)

Justin is already getting tired of me asking to have a fire. I want one EVERY night - even if it is 70 degrees outside!!!! I love them :) I really must have a circulation problem, I'm thinking!!
Still need to jazz this lil' guy up :)
Thanks, Mom, for the beautiful arrangements and wreath. They are all just the perfect touches to our apartment and I am so thankful for your talent! :)

Thanksgiving 2010

Well, I hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving! We had a great one with family, friends, a decent amount of food and lots of Christmas decorating. On our way to lunch with Justin's family on Thanksgiving day, we talked about how we felt more in the "holiday" spirit than ever this year. I think it is because it was 40 something degrees outside, I was holding a pumpkin pie, we had a big 'ole pot of green beans seatbelted in the backseat, Christmas music was on the radio and every building we passed along the way had Christmas decorations up already. We just felt so dang jolly. Hope you felt some of that, too.

Pumpkin Pie. Handmade sign....not so much handmade pie.:)

This was our first Thanksgiving as a married couple and I just really could not be more thankful for Justin and our wonderfully supportive families. Thanksgiving will always be a special holiday for us as two years ago, Justin asked me to be his girlfriend AT his parents house. On Thanksgiving day....in front of most of his family. (So, we had just started dating and as soon as I arrived at his house, he greeted me at the front door asking if he could introduce me as his girlfriend rather than "Courtni, his special friend." I said yes :) and the rest is history). This year, he had no pressure - we are legit :) We enjoyed a great meal at The Greshams, watched some Cowboys football and helped our cute nieces make a gingerbread village.
After lunch, we headed over to my parents house for more Thanksgiving festivities! After dinner, more pumpkin pie and watching the Ags bring home the big W in Austin (whoop!) at my parents house, I began to suffer from some MAJOR Black Friday shopping decision-making anxiety. After scattering out all the newspaper ads and looking at all of the once-in-a-lifetime  "door-buster, early bird" specials that were going to be happening at freakish hours of the morning (night?!), I really started to freak out about where I should go and what I was going to get. This was weird, not because I had trouble making a decision (I'm fairly awful at being decisive), but odd because only hours before I vowed to never shop on Black Friday, that those "doorbuster" people were nutso and told myself there was really nothing that I had my eyes set on to purchase. BUT because of Facebook and it's incredible way of making you aware of what every person you know is doing and a fear that I might miss out on getting all of my Christmas shopping done for $100...I felt I just had to go. I begged Justin to go, but he hates shopping with a burning passion so pair that with losing sleep and that's just not a person I'd probably like to be around. After trying to convince several other family members to go with me, I decided that sleep is a pretty good thing and I would skip out on the madness...this year. I did wake up to be at Hobby Lobby (my first and true shopping love) at 8:00, though, and bought a bunch of stuff NOT on sale. I was probably the only person that day that bought things full-price. Hey...when ya need paint....ya just do what ya gotta do :)

All in all, it was a wonderful day and I am just so grateful for the amazing people in my life and how truly blessed we are. I am reading a book now called "Lord, Change my Attitude" (it is really good, fyi) and the day before Thanksgiving I read this quote in it that I really loved. I'll end my Thanksgiving blog re-cap with it - enjoy!

"Thankfulness is the attitude that perfectly displaces my sinful tendancy to complain and thereby release joy and blessing into my life."

Heated Throw Blanket. (am I getting old?!)

Last year, my wonderful mother-in-law got me a heated throw blanket and honestly, when I opened it I had NO idea how much I would grow to love a piece of fleece. I am super cold natured (basically anything below 80 degrees is freezing to me), so I absolutely love curling up with my cold-killing throw. Unlike a full-sized heated blanket, heating pad or Snuggie, it is the perfect size and mine is so incredibly soft. (However, if they have a heated Snuggie that I am unaware of...that might just outdo my throw)Somehow, my coveted throw blanket did not make the move from my parents house to our apartment, probably because we moved in the spring/summer. Sok I snatched it back a couple of weeks ago and have already pulled it out for the winter season (and/or the whole year!) There is one downfall to this geriatric habit of mine: Justin....does NOT love my cotton companion. He is exactly opposite of me- a hot natured being - so just the thought of my heated blank-ey makes him sweat. I have to stay far away from him when I have it on (most nights and at the highest temperature, I might add!!). He calls me granny for using it....and I just really don't care. I'm warm. and happy. :)

Mine is a Sunbeam and I'm pretty sure they can be found at Wal-Mart or purchased online here

So, if you need a small little gift idea for your mom, grandmother or 26 year old daughter/sister/friend, a heated throw blanket might just make their dreams come true this Christmas. Much like it did mine in 2009.

Pumpkin Pie - In a cup!

I realize this is my second post regarding something that is pumpkin and slightly unhealthy but I just simply feel this must be shared and not kept to myself. Last night we had dinner with some great friends of ours, Ben and Kara, and just had such a fun time with them. They made some awesome brownies for dessert, which would have been just fine by themselves for me (I am slightly obsessive when it comes to eating brownies....it's a problem), but they asked if we wanted to try some pumpkin pie liqueur....to which we obviously said yes. OMG...glad we did! We might be behind times in just now trying this but...wow. It is AWESOME, people!!! You have to try it. Served on the rocks, it is the perfect holiday drink and literally tastes JUST like pumpkin pie. Nothing could have gotten me in the Thanksgiving mood more than that drink. Truly, I was thankful for this treat.

The one they served us was called Fulton's Harvest and they said you can find at your local liquor store for around $11.

So, if this 80 degree weather isn't quite putting you in the Turkey Day spirits just yet, go pick yourself up a bottle and just tryyyyy to not be happy. I dare you.

Oh yea...don't drink and drive.  ;)

Post-Workout Recovery

Since my last post, we experienced another CrossFit workout and this time, no breakfast was revisited...yahoo! Justin and I are not sure that our bodies have ever felt this type of soreness. Seriously. Sore to the touch. Yessssssss.

We want to keep going and push through the soreness, so a little Post-Workout Recovery is our lifeline. If you workout regularly, you should definitely check this out. We have been using for several months now and love it. PWR helps minimize soreness after your workouts, aids in muscle repair and recovery and contains high-quality protein essential for your body after a workout.

Check it out here! Your muscles will thank you...ours will! :)

CrossFit: Revisiting Breakfast

For some time now, Justin and I have been very regular about our workout regimen - how frequently we go, the types of exercises we do and always challenging each other to reach certain goals. Lately, we have done classes ranging from spin, lift, cardio/step and bootcamp to bikram yoga (me, not justin :)) We would like to think we are heart-healthy, fairly 'fit' individuals.

Well, we were brought to a new, humbling fitness level last night (and it was a low one!). Enter: CrossFit.

Last night, we did the Workout of the Day ("WOD" for all you new-to-CrossFitters out there, like us!) with some of Justin's friends from college who own CrossFit DFW. Most of the classes and workouts we do on our own consist of about 1 hour, so I was pleasantly surprised when we finished the WOD  in under 12 minutes. However, don't let time fool you into thinking it was a 12 minute stroll through the park. No, no. The sheer intensity of those 12 minutes consisting of shuttle runs, pull-ups (last time I did one was in 5th grade, I think), and overhead squats that got our legs to feeling like they were around 200 lbs each, hearts pumping like crazy and may or may not have caused someone to say hello again to their Frosted Flakes from earlier in the day! I didn't give up because I kept thinking about Jillian and The Biggest Loser the whole time....if they can do it, I can! And the fact that Justin's friends were watching and cheering us on the whole time, I was the only girl and my pride that wouldn't allow me to stop.

So, I'm feelin it today. That good, tingly feeling in my muscles where I just know that the time spent last night, allbeit shorter than we spend at our gym, was extremely beneficial. Short & sweet....I love it! We are excited to go back!

If you want to learn more about CrossFit, check out CrossFit DFW. They are located in North Richland Hills and their site has their schedule and all sorts of great information about what CrossFit, nutrition, etc. The Saturday class at 9 AM is free, so if you live in the area you should definitely check it out!

Glass half empty?

I'd like to think that I am 99% of the time a carefree, non-complaining person. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt in most situations, keep a positive attitude and really try to see things from other's point of view instead of getting frustrated. However, our trip to Olive Garden tonight made all of the above things ring very untrue for me. We had some Bad, capital B, service people. It was rough. The food...great as usual. The long periods of waiting around, glasses being water-less most of the meal and the multitude of teenage 'servers' attempting to figure out who was supposed to be helping us, however, were just plain rough. The main thing that bothered me, though, was the water. Yes, I willingly ate several hot, gooey, garlicy breadsticks that helped along my thirst, but still...I just didn't think it was that hard to fetch a glass of water for a sista. My ugly side wanted to come out with every ounce of me.....but Justin helped me keep my cool. Thanks to my better half, or it could have gotten nasty!! ;)

We weren't in a hurry tonight. Nor do we have to have our meals served to us on the finest of china or expect superb quality from a chain like Olive Garden. However, I really just wanted some water....and I let it go to far in my mind. ;) See, my first "real" job was waiting tables at a little burger joint, Goldies, that used to be in Colleyville. I'm not sure I made a wonderful waitress (actually, I think I was pretty dang awful at the whole '3-track memory thing), but one thing I do remember is how absolutely insistent our manager was on keeping customers drinks full. The rule of thumb was to never let anyone's glass get past halfway mark....ever. He meant business. And he proved it by patrolling the restaurant like a vulture with a pitcher of water. I know he was just itching for someone to take that last sip which pushed them to the halfway mark so he could come to the kitchen and lecture to us on how we were slacking on our jobs as "servers," the "value of keeping glasses full at all times" and how it was a "mark of true service and a good waiter/waitress" that he had learned over his many years in the industry." Ya ya. The majority of my time waiting tables, I stressed more over those dang plastic water cups than I ever did about making sure orders were right, carrying on coherent conversations or even smiling and looking happy. That doesn't seem quite right to me. But hey, my customers didn't go thirsty!

I'm not sure if I would have gotten quite as 'irked' tonight, had I not had that hardcore experience waiting tables growing up (hard-knock life, right?! ha). Anyone who has worked in the food industry knows that it is tough work. People get a little cranky and particular when it comes to meal time and having things done exactly how they want them. Being a server is a hard job and thanks to Justin, I was reminded of my days dealing with cranky, hungry people and how the balancing act is so very tough. Sorry, Olive Garden waitress, for thinking you were incompetent tonight. We all have days where we just can't seem to get it together and everything gets a little out of control for a bit. I, for one, totally know that feeling and am thankful for this little reminder.

All I know is, I'm drinking a LARGE glass of water before I go to bed tonight and am thankful to my sweet husband for helping me see things "glass half FULL" versus my Olive Garden empty view, tonight.

Happy Baby Mac

Is he not just the cutest lil' thing ever?! This is my friend Jordin's little boy, Mac. I got to hang out with them on Saturday and we just played around and snapped some fun pictures of him now that he is able to sit up on his own. It was a big weekend for Mac! He was baptized on Sunday at White's Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake and it was a blessing to be there. Jordin and Ryan are wonderful, sweet parents and it is obvious how much these two love Mac. Not hard to do...he is so love-able. I never saw anything but a precious smile on his face (besides making some awesome faces while exploring his newly-discovered tongue) and he is just such a happy, content baby. I hope our kids are this easy and happy one day (mom...this is still several years away, just FYI!!!)

Great job on creating this one, Jordin and Ryan! ;)

And...I'm...back in the game!

The blogging hiatus is no more. I was on such a roll there for a bit and then somewhere in between having the stomach flu, traveling to Mexico and College Station, house shopping, work and major internet problems here at the apt (I'll spare you from my disdain for Time Warner!!), I just haven't quite gotten around to posting. So, here I am, back in the business of blogging and I am ready to catch up on all the blogs I usually read, too! :)

I will post about our Mexico trip and some pictures of that later, but I just have to say that even though this Texas weather has slowly inched it's way back up into the high 70s/low 80s the past week...I am in full holiday mode! And I feel like it happened overnight since carving pumpkins. This week, I helped my mom decorate a beautiful home in Colleyville for Christmas, crafted tons of gifts for a holiday shopping party we were a part of Thursday night, saw several homes with Christmas lights already up while house shopping recently, and have even knocked a few Christmas gifts off the 'ol list! It's only November 14th and I feel so in the spirit!! I love the holidays!!!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend and I look forward to becoming a regular blogger, again :)

I've been a bad blogger.

I've been pretty bad at blogging...well, pretty much non-existent...the past week and I don't see it getting better anytime soon. We are now leaving for Mexico tomorrow (yahoo for spur-of-the moment flights!) and will be returning Sunday, so....no blogs for a while!

Hope you all have a great week, though, and I'll have lots of fun things to write about when I get back, I'm sure.

In the meantime, you should check out my mom's blog, here. We are working on lots of fun things for a gift show coming up in November, so maybe she'll have something great to share :)

Hasta la vista, baby!
