How to do the runningman

Refer to previous entry points #6....and 5. :) (Re-watching this, I sound like I am being a total slave-driver of a dance coach...sorry, Justin!! Love you! Just call me Jillian from Biggest Loser!)

So, you think you can dance?

We had a great weekend - hope you did, too! It was part relaxing, part busy but the best part was that I was definitely given further confirmation as to why Justin is so incredibly perfect for me (as if I needed that!). Hands down, he is the best dance partner I could ever dream of. And I get to dance with him for the rest of my life...yahoo! We attended a wedding in Dallas on Saturday night and just had so much fun on the dance floor together. So much so, that people were coming up to us telling us that we need to keep dancing that way until we are 80 years old (which, I completely intend on doing!) The band was awesome and played a little bit of everything that we love to get our groove on to.

Dancing is something that we have always enjoyed doing together and I really never thought that I would find someone of the opposite sex who enjoys it the same way that I do. Enter Justin :) I loved every second of our wedding reception because we got to do what we love the most...dance!! All that said, we are not phenomenal dancers...and we are aware of this. We have a minimal amount of spins and turns in our back pocket, we often trip over (or on!) each other, have been kicked off a dance floor because of our sillyness at a wedding (by a grandma, no less! funny story:)) and there has been the occasional tumble to the floor. But the common denominator through it all is that we have a blast doing it. And laugh, a lot.

There are many times I glance around the room while we are dancing, notice people standing and think to myself...how!! How do you stand still?! :) I know there are probably a slew of reasons they might throw right back at me, but I think dancing is therapeutic, an easy way to break a sweat, and shoot...life is just too short to NOT dance! A few quick thoughts on conquering the boogie fears and getting out on the dancefloor:

1. You just cannot care what people think about you. Whatsoever. Not to burst your bubble, but chances are, people are not paying attention to the moves that you are trying so hard to execute. People just want to see that you are having a great time and if you are doing #2 below, that's not what they are looking for.

2. Don't just stand there. Shuffle your feet, snap your fingers, slightly move your hips (Think "Hitch"). Any sort of movement is good.

3. Steal. It is ok and encouraged to copy what your neighbor is doing if you've got nothin'.

4. Make ridiculous faces. Ours tend to look like we're constipated, but it seems to work just fine. (Duck lips are NOT your friend, however)

5. Sport confidence. Be bold, confident and whatever move you chose to go for....don't do it 1/2 way. Commit to the move and your crowd will be pleased.

6. If all else fails, resort to the running man like Justin (ok, he is still learning, but I just know he's going to master it any day now). **I have a great video of him doing this last week but for the life of me I cannot get it to upload. Believe you me, I will post as soon as I can get that puppy up.

So, all in all, I hope you dance (cheesy? you betcha). Really, though, it is so much fun and I am so thankful Justin loves it as much as I do! I can't end this blog, though, without giving credit where credit is due. A shout out to some of my all-time favorite dance partners throughout the years: Kirbi (you were my musical pioneer and earliest dance friend - thank you for paving the way), Carly (some of our Native moves after breakfast for dinner are simply indescribable), Ellen (one of the more energetic dancers I know!), Swilley (I have learned some of the most fantastic, life-changing moves, and lil' jigs from you), Lindsay (we have some Boys 2 Men routines that would rock your world!) and my beautiful seeester Hailey (she is the two-step QUEEN that I aspire to be) We have all shared some glorious dance memories together that I just cherish ;)

Happy dancing, everyone!
